Hardwood & composite decking
Spotted gum, blackbutt and composite decks on hardwood or marine-grade steel framing.
Decking →South Coast · NSW 2533
Headland views, hinterland farms and a fair bit of wind. We build decks, patios and glass balustrades across the Kiama municipality, from Minnamurra down to Gerroa and out to Jamberoo.
building in kiama
Most people building in Kiama want the outlook: the ocean from the headland streets, or the green hills behind Jamberoo and Gerringong. That shapes the design. Posts go where they won't cut the view, roofs are pitched to keep the sightline, and glass replaces solid balustrades where the drop allows.
The same exposure is hard on materials. On the coastal streets, salt-laden wind is part of daily life, so exposed decks get spotted gum or composite boards, hardwood or marine-grade steel framing, and stainless fixings. Owner-led from quote through to handover.
what we build in Kiama
Spotted gum, blackbutt and composite decks on hardwood or marine-grade steel framing.
Decking →Frameless and semi-frameless glass that keeps the ocean or rural view open from the deck.
Balustrades →Opening roofs you can close when the wind picks up and open again for the winter sun.
Louvered pergolas →Insulated and flyover patio roofs with fixings and finishes chosen for salt exposure.
Insulated & flyover patios →Aluminium slat screens that block a neighbour's line of sight and take the edge off the wind without closing in the deck.
Privacy screens →CDC and DA pathways with Kiama Municipal Council, handled end-to-end. Where a heritage report is needed, we coordinate it.
Council approval guide →before we quote
Kiama has listed heritage items and conservation areas. If your home is one, or sits in one, the faster CDC pathway may not be open, and we plan for a DA with Kiama Municipal Council.
Headland and beachfront sites take the full force of the wind. We confirm your site's wind classification and size the structure to suit.
Acreage around Jamberoo and Gerringong can bring bush fire mapping, rural zoning rules and longer access for materials. We check before we design.
We work out post positions and roof pitch with you on site, from where you'll actually sit, so the structure frames the view instead of blocking it.

faq · Kiama
Yes. We cover the whole Kiama municipality: Kiama, Kiama Heights, Kiama Downs, Minnamurra, Jamberoo, Gerringong and Gerroa.
For exposed coastal sites we typically recommend spotted gum or premium composite boards on hardwood or marine-grade steel framing with stainless fixings. We'll spec the right combination for your site at the free design meeting.
Usually, yes, but the approval path is different. A heritage item, or a home in a heritage conservation area, may not qualify for the exempt or complying pathways, and often needs a development application with Kiama Municipal Council. The design also has to respect the character of the house. We check the listing for your address and coordinate the application and any heritage report it needs.
