Dapto is where we're based. BC Complete designs and builds patios, decks, pergolas and carports from 2/9 Hamilton Street, so homes in Dapto, Horsley, Kanahooka and the new West Dapto estates are on our doorstep. We work out the approval you need with Wollongong City Council or a private certifier, and we lodge it for you.
building in dapto
Dapto has a bit of everything. There are established streets around the town centre and Kanahooka, family homes in Horsley and Koonawarra, and brand-new houses going up across the West Dapto release area. Each one shapes the build differently. An older home usually needs a patio or deck that ties into an existing roofline and floor level. A new build often comes with a smaller, flatter backyard, a fresh slab and an estate rulebook to follow.
The land changes as you cross the suburb, too. Toward Lake Illawarra and along Mullet Creek the ground is low and flat, and some lots are mapped as flood-affected. Head west toward the escarpment and blocks get steeper, and some back onto bushland. Both change what we build and what paperwork it needs, so we look at them before we draw anything.
Because we're local, the free design meeting, the site measure and any follow-up visits are just around the corner. Brad runs every project himself, from the first call to handover.

Council approval guide →before we quote
Parts of Dapto near Mullet Creek and Lake Illawarra are mapped as flood-affected. A flood-affected lot adds conditions to a complying development approval, and anything that needs a development application is assessed against council's flood controls, so we read your property's planning certificate first.
New homes in the West Dapto release area usually come with restrictions on the title and developer design guidelines. They can control materials, colours and how close a patio or carport sits to the street, and some need the developer's sign-off.
Blocks on the western side, toward the escarpment, can be steeper and may be mapped as bush fire prone land. On mapped land, anything built within 5 m of the house has to be non-combustible to stay exempt, and slope changes the footings.
Dapto is in the Wollongong City Council area. Many patios, decks and carports can go ahead as exempt or complying development under the NSW codes; larger or more complex jobs need a development application.

Yes. BC Complete is at 2/9 Hamilton Street, Dapto NSW 2530, and Brad runs every project himself. Being local means the design meeting, the site measure and any follow-up visits are only a short drive away.
It depends on the size, the height and how close it sits to the boundaries. Many smaller patios and decks are exempt development under the NSW codes, which means no approval at all. Others can go through a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) from council or an accredited certifier, and larger or more complex jobs need a development application with Wollongong City Council. Our council guide explains the three routes, and we work out which one applies to your block.
Often, yes. Your property's planning certificate (a section 10.7 certificate from council) shows whether the lot is flood-affected. A small patio or deck that meets every exempt rule is not ruled out by flooding alone, but a complying development approval comes with extra flood conditions, and a development application is assessed against council's flood controls. We read the certificate with you before we design, so there are no surprises later.
Check the restrictions on your title and the developer's design guidelines. They can set rules on materials, colours and setbacks, and some require the developer's sign-off before you build. Send us the documents with your enquiry and we'll design around them from the start.
Usually. The things that decide it are the driveway width, the distance to the street and side boundaries, and what your estate guidelines allow. To be exempt, a carport has to sit at least 1 m behind the front wall of the house, so one that sits in front of the house needs a development application. We check that before we price it. Our carport approval guide covers the rules in plain English.
